Formula Flashcards
How do you correctly label a right angled triangle- A/O/H?
H is the top side, A is the base, O is the vertical height
If you have a right angled triangle, what do you use to work out the missing sides or angles?
Trigonometry (SOH, CAH, TOA)
If you are using the adjacent and hypotenuse, which trigonometric ratio do you use?
CAH
If you are using the opposite and hypotenuse, which trigonometric ratio do you use?
SOH
If you are using the opposite and adjacent, which trigonometric ratio do you use?
TOA
What is the sine rule?
a/sinA = b/sinB = c/sinC
What is the cosine rule?
a^2 = b^2 + c^2 -2bcCosA
You use the sine rule when…
You have two sides and an angle opposite to one of the two sides or one side and any two angles.
You use the cosine rule when,,,
You have a triangle with two sides and an angle, or three sides
What is the formula to find the area of any triangle?
1/2abSinC
What is the formula for the area of a trapezium?
1/2 (a + b) h
What is the cross section of a prism?
The cross section of a prism would be the face
What is the formula for the cross section of a prism?
V = area of base x height
