Epic Poetry
Poems that deal with heros with adventures. Usually written by Homer and other Greeko-Roman Poets.
Epistolary Poems
Poems written/read as letters
Ballad
Poems that generally follow a rhyme scheme and a meter. Mostly on subjects like love, death, and religion.
Elegies
Mourning Poems
Odes
Poems that used to be songs
Pastoral Poems
Poems that talk about/praise nature
Epigrams
Very short poems (one or two lines) that throw a good umph/punch to it, often ends with a satirical twist or memorable statement. Almost like a quote
Limericks
Also short poems, but more on the humorous side. (4 lines of iambic diameter and last line of iamic trimester)
e.g. hickery dickory dock dick whatever that is
Sonnets
14 lines of iambic pentameter. Three quatrains, fourth couplet.
