Direct: in small greek cities.
Indirect: choosing representive in assembly.
Unitery state
A state or a country that is governed as a single unit with the central govt exercising complete control over its subdivision or provinces. Collins dictionary.
Merits of unitary state.
Can deal effective with all questions. Uniformity of law, simplicity, saves money.

Large territorial, disregard local needs, subordinate position of local government.
Federal state
A state in which power is distributed between central authority and constituental units. Collins dictionary
Merits of Federation.
Unity with diversity, bring progress, lesson dangers of war, suitable for modern society.

Weakness for state, prevents uniformity of law, distribution of powers cannot be perfect for all time, rigidity of constitution,
