What is a democracy?
A political system for choosing and replacing the government through free and fair elections
What is a republic?
In a republic the head of state is elected as well as the bodies that make the law
Power of government is held by the people
The people give power to the leaders that represent them and serve their interests
What is a monarchy?
A form of government where the head of state status is held by the king or queen
The role is given for life unless they give up the throne
What is an absolute monarchy?
a form of government in which
a single person—usually a king or queen—holds absolute,
autocratic power.
What is a constitutional monarchy?
In a constitutional monarchy,
political power is shared between the monarch and a
constitutionally organised government such as a
parliament.
What is communism?
Communism is a political system based on the socialist
ideas of Marx and Lenin
Instead of private companies owning bodies such as the
railways and banks, everything comes under the control of
the state. Private property and ownership cease to exist.
