Civics

Government
the governing body of a nation, state, or community.
Direct Democracy
a form of government in which policies and laws are decided by a majority of all those eligible rather than by a body of elected representatives.
Representative
(of a legislative or deliberative assembly) consisting of people chosen to act and speak on behalf of a wider group.
Representative democracy
Representative democracy is a form of democracy in which people vote for representatives who then vote on policy initiatives; as opposed to direct democracy, a form of democracy in which people vote on policy initiatives directly.
Monarchy
a form of government with a monarch at the head.
Oligarchy
a small group of people having control of a country, organization, or institution.
Majority
the greater number.
minority
the smaller number or part, especially a number that is less than half the whole number.
Autocracy
a system of government by one person with absolute power.
communism
a political theory derived from Karl Marx, advocating class war and leading to a society in which all property is publicly owned and each person works and is paid according to their abilities and needs.
Socialism
a political and economic theory of social organization which advocates that the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole.
Totalitarianism
a system of government that is centralized and dictatorial and requires complete subservience to the state
head of government
Person responsible for carrying on the business of government and for leading the team of ministers who control the central institutions of the government and the state.
