Formative 14 revision Flashcards
What is the difference bewteen DM93 MT and DM93 MTSQ?
The DM93 MT has the SQ element removed and included is a deformation zone at the front of the steel nose cone
M772 incorporates 4 safety arrangements, one being the Safety Pin and Safety Pull Wire. What are the other three?
- Detents and Detent Ball Bearings
- Top Gear
- Firing Pin Bush
What are the 4 fuze setting modes on the PD PRAC M751?
- Proximity
- Impact
- Near Surface Burst
- Delay
How does the proximity fuze setting work on the PD PRAC M751?
It doesn’t, all settings function on impact
What are the two position of the setting pin on the Fuze PD M935?
- Super Quick
- Delay
Fuze M935 consists of two main assemblies, what are they?
- Body assembly (outer, inner)
- magazine Assembly
Setting pin is one of the assemblies housed in the inner body assembly of the Fuze M935, name the other six
- Detent assemblies
- Shutter assembly
- Main Striker Assembly
- Delayed Arming Assembly
- Lead Assembly
- Safety Pin
Decribe what happens on firing to the Cart 81mm Mortar ILLUM M9769A2 FZ MTSQ DM93
- Firing pin strikes percussion cap which initiates the primary cartridge which subsequently ignites the augmenting charge via the flash holes
- Obturating ring provides forwards obturation and the rapidly expanding gases expels the mortar from the barrel
- Setback force unlocks the fuze’s setback safety device to commence the fuze arming sequence
- Fuze arms after 40metres of flight time
- Once pre-selected flight time is met, fuze initiates the expulsion charge
- Expulsion charge causes separation of the front and rear sections of the mortar body
- Illuminant candle and parachute deploy and simultaneously igniting the delay element on the candle
- Drogue parachute deploys and slows assembly so that the main parachute is withdrawn from main body
- Main parachute deploys, delay element ignites illuminant candle
- Candle burns for 60 seconds at 500,000 candela
Name the four main characteristics of a mortar:
- Smooth Bore
- No recoil mechanism
- Restricted to use at elevations above 800 mils
- Muzzle loaded
Name the types of fire for a mortar:
- Defensive fire
- Preparation fire
- Covering fire
- Harassing fire
- Interdiction
- Smoke
- Illumination
- Marking
After firing, what components remain in the breach to be unloaded of the Abrahms Tank?
Case base, seal assembly and the primer
What special precutions to prevent electricity hazards are to be taken, when handling 120mm ammo?
- Dry cotton gloves are to be worn at all times when 120mm ammunition is handeled
- Primer of 120mm ammunition must not be touched by exposed skin or metal objects
- Unauthorised wireless/electronic devices are not to be used within 5 metres or ammunitioning vechiles or exposed ammunition
What are the two major reasons for the 120mm TPCSDS-T round procurement
- Reduce cost
- Reduce range safety templates
What is the role of the cone stabiliser on the TPCSDS-T
To impart spin to loose ballistic stability
Describe the role of the 120mm canister?
Anti-personnel
- Offensive fire against exposed enemy
- Defensive fire against massed infantry assaults
