Formative 1 Flashcards
Vacular
A plant that has a internal vascular system. It can carry water and minerals throughout itself and is normally tall, have rooots and has flowers/leaves. Exsampls are trees, flowers and cacti
Non vascular
A plant that has no internal vascular system meaning that it cannot carry water and minerals throughout themselfs. They are ofthen small, have no roots and live near water. Exsamples are moss and liverwort.
Seedless
A plant that does not contain or produce seeds. They do not produce flowers. Exsamples are ferns
Seeded
A plant that produces seeds. These plants often have flowers, food and leaves. Some exsamples are flowers and trees
Gymnosperm
A plant that has disformed leaves and does not have or need seeds or pollon. They can normallybe found in more harsh enviornments. One exsample of this is pine trees
Angiosperm
A plant that bears fruits, leaves and flowers. They are found all over the world. Some exsamples are flowers and apple trees.
Adaptation in desert
Plants need to adapt to heat and emence sunlight. Cacti do so with their thick, sticky skin to keep water in, Needles poking out to protect their water and long deep roots to tap into water and minerals.
Adaptation in rainforest
Plants need to deal with a lot of water and compition for sunlight. They do this with drip tips which are tips of plants shaped to direct water away. They do this to enusre there is no water damage or ripping leaves. There are also plants that live on top of other plants to ensure they get the sunlight and water they need
Adaptation in the arctic
In the arctic plants need to adapt to snow, ice and really cold conditions. Plants come in bigger cluster sizes for more heat, smaller leaves to reduce the transportation and Anti freeze built in.
Auxins
Auxins is a stimulatory hormone that induces cell division. It directs plant growth towards sunlight. When mixed with citokinnins it can be used as weed killer
Cytokimnins
A stimulatory plant hormone that enduces cell division. It is made in the roots and follows water transport up to the rest of he plant. It makes plants leaves greener and when mixed with Auxins it can be a weed killer.
Gibberellens
Another stimulatory hormone that enduces stem elongation. It is made in seeds and is used to enduce seed germanation. An application for it is it makes fruit and cluster sizes bigger.
Ethylene
A gas hormone that is inhibatory. It is made when a plant is under stress or dying. An application is it ripens fruit quickly.
Abscisc Acid (ABA)
Another inhibatory hormone that stops all other stimulatory hormones. It is maed when a plant is under stress or dying. It is the reason why leaves turn orange in the fall.
Nastic responce
A plant responce that is not stimultory. An exsample is plants opening durning the day and closing at night to consirve heat
Tropism
A plant responce to external stimuli that is stimulatory. An exsample is a vine wraping around a house.
