By the Holy Spirit
What is the work of the church?
Divine Worship, Mutual Edification, and Gospel Witness
Purpose of discipline?
Honor of Christ, good of his church, and reclamation of the offender
What are the ordinary and perpetual offices in the Church?
Elders and Deacons. Those who labor in Word and teaching are called ministers.
Those who minister the Word can be distinguished three ways. What are they?
Evangelist, Pastor, Teacher
How may a minister have right to vote in the local congregation?
A session, with concurrence of the presbytery, may grant the right to vote in the congregation.
What are the duties of ruling elders?
To watch the flock, visit the people, instruct the ignorant, pray for the people. Particular concern for the doctrine and conduct of the minister of the Word and help him in his labors.
What do deacons oversee?
The ministry of mercy in the church and collect and disburse funds for the relief of the needy. Also, other things committed to the deacons.
Can a session overrule deacons?
If it seems to be for the best interest of the church, the session can ask them to reconsider, or they may overrule them.
What rights to assemblies have?
All assemblies have the right to resolve questions of doctrine and discipline reasonably proposed and the power to obtain evidence and inflict censures
When can a case go to a higher assembly?
In disputed matters of doctrine and discipline
Who can vote in an assembly?
Must be in person
How many elders are needed for a quorum?
Two ruling elders if there are three or more, one RE if there are fewer than three, together with the pastor or one of the pastors of the local congregation
