1887 USA establishes 1st pacific naval base at pearl harbour
1890s there was 3000 US troops with 90,000 sugar workers living on three Hawaiian islands
In 1890 the McKinley tarried removed duties on raw sugar growers so the Hawaiian growers lost their trading advantage and began to suffer as a result, especially in Cuba

In 1900 an extension of the open door policy with a second door note stating: asserting the partial trade in all parts of china

Japan defeats Russia in the Russia Japanese war. The USA negotiated the treaty of new Hampshire but Japan wanted a war,
Roosevelt was keen to have a better relationship with Japan so in 1906 the Root-TakaHita agreement was signed. The 2 countries agreed to respect each others interest and maintain current events in the pacific

1901: congress passed the Platt amendment which gave USA control of Cuban foreign, financial and commercial affairs
1903: Cuba’s final treaty which imposed a new political system on the country and made Cuba economically dependent on the USA
1906: American forces come back to Cuba as a result of unrest that started from the presidential election in 1905
1912: US invades again in Cuba with marines to help the Cuban government down a revolt of former slaves
