In 1890 the McKinley tarried removed duties on raw sugar growers so the Hawaiian growers lost their trading advantage and began to suffer as a result, especially in Cuba

Roosevelt was keen to have a better relationship with Japan so in 1906 the Root-TakaHita agreement was signed. The 2 countries agreed to respect each others interest and maintain current events in the pacific
Dominican Repbulic
1903: the republic defaulted on the re-payment of American loans worth 40 million
In 1904 Roosevelt took control of customer revenue of the Dominican Republic, using it to pay off debt

1898: the us passed the teller amendment which meant they wouldn’t annex Cuba
1901: congress passed the Platt amendment which gave USA control of Cuban foreign, financial and commercial affairs
1903: Cuba’s final treaty which imposed a new political system on the country and made Cuba economically dependent on the USA
1906: American forces come back to Cuba as a result of unrest that started from the presidential election in 1905
1912: US invades again in Cuba with marines to help the Cuban government down a revolt of former slaves
