Q

Why can even aged class distribution be good

A

Timber management in an even-aged forest is considered
to be economically efficient since major operations require
only one entry into a stand. Final harvests involve removing
nearly all trees depending upon the regeneration method
chosen. In an even-aged forest, foresters also have the opportunity to replant genetically improved seedlings which
are more disease resistant, grow faster, and possess better
timber and visual characteristics.

In addition only certain types of shade tolerant trees are able to grow underneath the taller trees in an uneven age

15
Q

What is seral?

A

Seral seems to be synonymous with ecological age. So a mid-seral tree would be a tree that is moderately old.

16
Q

What is the difference between open and closed forests

A

Closed forests are dense, and the sky is covered

Open forests have trees more scattered about

17
Q

What is roosting?

A

A place where birds rest.

18
Q

What is nesting

A

Where birds have their homes and lay eggs

18
Q

What is tatch

A

Straw and other undecomposed plant material

19
Q

What is chaparral

A

A dense impenetrable thicket of shrubs and dwarf trees

20
Q

The wayside aster, or Eucephalus Vialis is one examples of a ____ _____ plant, which the agency wants to avoid a trend toward listing under the ESA

A

Bureau Sensitive plant

21
Q

An Evergreen tree is a tree that _______

A

Remains green and functional during more than one growing season

22
Q

The opposite of an evergreen tree is a ______, which has this quality _____

A

Deciduous tree, which completely lose their leaves during the cold season

23
Q

What is a decadent ecosystem?

A
