Anti-French alliance with Spain, Holy Roman Empire and the Papacy.
What happened in 1512 regarding the French?
Henry sent 10 000 soldiers to south-west France but Ferdinand did not support the English and they suffered a defeat.
What battles happened in 1513?
Battle of Spurs & Battle of Flodden
Battle of Spurs:
Henry led a force into north-east France and won the battle of Spurs, taking Tournai.
Battle of Flodden:
James the IV of Scotland, allied to France, invaded England. He was defeated and killed, along with many Scottish nobles and 17 month old James V was left on the throne.
Result of the 1512/13 military:
- huge drain of English finance
- loss of Etaples pension
- peace with Scotland
- rebellions in Yorkshire because of taxation to fund theses battles
