Forebrain, Midbrain, Hindbrain Flashcards
basal ganglia
network of cells involved in motor function and reward
thalamus
intakes sensory information and determines the next route
hippocampus
crescent/ seahorse-shaped, processes episodic and contextual memories. Also helps us navigate where we are in space
amygdala
main emotion center, related more to fear/anxiety-related emotions than other brain regions
hypothalamus
controls hormone secretion and regulates the body’s function, above the pituitary gland
limbic system
all the networks that work together to help us process emotions (olfactory bulb, hypothalamus, hippocampus, amygdala, and cingulate cortex)
basal nucleus
set of nuclei that release Acetylcholine, controls system of arousal, wakefulness, and attention
ventricles
CSF-filled spaces between hemispheres, and larger ventricles correlated with schizophrenia
