Forearm muscles Flashcards
muscles in the anterior superficial compartment of the forearm
flexor carpi ulnaris
flexor carpi radialis
palmaris longus
pronator teres
what are the muscles in the anterior intermediate compartment of the forearm
flexor digitorum superfificalis
what muscles are in the deep anterior compartment of the forearm
flexor pollicis longus
flexor digitorum profundus
pronator quadratus
flexor carpi ulnaris
Origin: humeral head from medial epicondyle and ulnar head from the olecranon of the ulna
Insertion: attaches to the pisiform bone, hook of hamate and base of 5th metacarpal
Actions: Flexion and adduction of the wrist
Innervation: ulnar nerve
palmaris longus
Origin: medial epicondyle
Insertion: flexor retinaculum of the wrist
Actions: flexion of the wrist
Innervation: median nerve
flexor carpi radialis
Origin: medial epicondyle
Insertion: Metacarpals 2 and 3
Actions: flexion and abduction at the wrist
innervation: median nerve
pronator teres
Origin: one from medial epicondyle and the other from the coronoid process of the ulna
Insertion: attaches laterally to the mid-shaft of the radius
Action: pronation of the forearm
Innervation: median nerve

what muscle is in the intermediate component of the forearm
flexor digitorum superficialis
Flexor digitorum superficialis
Origin: medial epicondyle and the radius
Insertion: middle phalanges of the 4 fingers
Action: flexes the metacarpophalangeal joints and the proximal interphalangeal joints and flexes the wrist
Innervation: median nerve
muscles found in the deep compartment of the anterior forearm
flexor digitorum profundus
flexor pollicis longus
pronator quadratus
flexor digitorum profundus
Origin: ulna
Insertion: distal phalanges of the four fingers
Actions: flexes the distal interphalangeal joints of the fingers
Innervation: medial half (on little and ring finer) is innervated by ulnar nerve.
The lateral half is innervated by the medial nerve
flexor pollicis longus
Origin: anterior surface of radius
Insertion: attaches to the base of the distal phalanx of the Thumb
Actions: flexes the interphalangeal joint and metacarpophalangeal joint of the thumb
Innervation: median nerve
pronator quadratus
Origin: anterior surface of the ulna
Insertion: anterior surface of the radius
Actions: pronates the forearm
Innervation: median nerve
