Forces & Motions Flashcards
Reference Point
A location to which another location is compared
Motion
A change of position over time
Speed
Measure of how fast something moves through a particular distance over a definite time period. Speed is distance divided by time.
Acceleration
The rate of change in an objects velocity
Velocity
A speed in a specific direction
Vector
A quantity that has both size and direction
Position
An objects location
Mass
A measure of how matter an object is made of
Weight
The force of gravity on an object
Force
A push or a pull; something that changes the motion of an object
Pressure
A measure of how much force is acting on an certain area; how concentrated a force is. Pressure is equal to the force divided by area.
Inertia
The resistance of an object to change in the speed or direction of its motion
Energy Conservation
Energy conservation refers to reducing energy consumption through using less of an energy service. Energy conservation differs from efficient energy use, which refers to using less energy for a constant service. For example, driving less is an example of energy conservation.
Energy Transformation
Energy transformation or energy conversion is the process of changing one form of energy to one other. In physics, the term energy describes the capacity to produce certain changes within any system, without regard to limitations in transformation imposed.
