Forces & Motion Flashcards
What is Physics?
The branch of science concerned wuth the nature and properties of matter and energy.
Meaning of Mass
It is the amount of matter in an object
Meaning of force
It is a push or a pull that makes things move or change their motion
Meaning of Motion
It refers to the change in position of an object wuth respect to its surroundings over a certain period.
Kinds of Force
1 Gravitational Force
2 Normal force
3 Applied force
4 Frictional Force
Balanced Forces
•Equal in size or magnitude
•The forces act in opposite direction
Unbalanced Forces
•Not equal in size or magnitude
•The forces act in opposite or same direction
Combining Forces
Netforce [Fnet]
Newton [N] -Unit of force and net force
Who formulated the 3 laws of motion?
Sir Isaac Newton
When was the birthdate and death day of Isaac Newton?
Born on: Jan 04,1643
Died on: March 31,1727
3 Laws of Motion
1 Law of Interia
2 Law of Acceleration
3 Law of Interaction
Law of Inertia
Is the property to resist change in its state of motion.
Law of Inertia states that
“An object at rest remains at rest and an object in motion remains in motion,at constant speed and in straight line unless acted upon by an unbalanced force”
Law of Acceleration states that:
“An object acted upon by an unbalanced force will accelerate in the direction of that force in direct proportion to the strength of the force, and inverse proportion to the mass of the object.”
