Forces, Elasticity and Power Flashcards
What may happen when you apply a force to an object?
It stretches and changes shape. If it returns to the original shape, it is an elastic object.
What happens to the energy of an object after work is done?
The energy is not lost but is stored by the object as elastic potential energy which is converted to kinetic energy after the force is removed.
What is directly proportional to the load or force applied to an elastic object?
The extension.
What does k mean in the equation : F = k x e
spring constant
What happens when thee force applied is too great?
The proportionality is limited.
What is power?
The rate of doing work - how much per second
What is the equation for power?
Power = work done (or energy transferred) ÷ time taken
What is power measured in?
Watts
