Forces and Transport Flashcards
Define Pressure
Pressure is a continuous physical force against an object
What is the formula for pressure (including units)?
Pressure(N/m2) = Force(N)/Area(m2)
What do levers do
They reduce the amount of force needed to do something
How do levers work?
They increase the distance over which the lever is acting upon
What is a moment?
Turning forces around a pivot
What is the formula for the moment (include units)?
Moment(Nm) = Force(N) * Distance(m)
What is hydraulics?
Hydraulics is when a force is applied at one point and is transferred to another through the use of an incompressible liquid
What is a magnetically hard metal?
A metal that retains magnetism for a long time e.g Steel
What is a magnetically soft metal?
A metal that quickly loses magnetism e.g Iron
What direction do water particles go to in a container
All directions
