Forces and Speed revision Flashcards
What is a force
A force is any interaction that, when unopposed, will change the motion of an object. A force has both magnitude and direction, making it a vector quantity.
How do you calculate speed (what is the formula)
Speed equals distance divided by time
Deform def.
To change shape
Equilibrium def.
A state of physical balance
Field (not the type where cows roam) def.
A region where something feels a force
Lubrication def.
Process or technique of using a lubricant toreduce friction and wear and tear in a contact between two surfaces.
mass def.
The amount of matter (stuff) an object is made of
tension
The state of being stretched
Unbalanced
Opposing forces on an object that are unequal
Hooke’s law
The law that says that if you double the force on an object the extension will double
What does Newton’s first law of motion state?
The first law states that an object at rest will stay at rest, and an object in motion will stay in motion unless acted on by a net external force. This is equivalent to saying that if the net force on an object is zero, then the velocity of the object is constant
What does Newton’s second law of Motion state?
The second law states that the rate of change of momentum of a body over time is directly proportional to the force applied, and occurs in the same direction as the applied force.
What does Newton’s third law of motion state?
The third law states that all forces between two objects exists in equal magnitude and opposite direction.
Unbalanced def.
Opposing forces on an object that are unequal
resistive forces
Any forces that
