Forces and Speed Flashcards
What does weight do?
Weight measures the effect gravity is having on an object
What is weight measured in?
Weight is measured in Newtons
What is mass?
Mass is a measurement of how much of something there is
What is mass measured in?
Mass is measured in grams, kilograms and so on
What forces oppose each other when something is floating?
Upthrust and gravity
How can you float so easily in the red sea?
The salt dissolves in the water which changes its properties
What does upthrust do?
Upthrust pushes things up when they are floating and reduces the weight.
What is the relationship between friction and motion?
Friction opposes motion
What are the characteristics of a streamlined shape?
A rounded front, a slowly tapering tail and a smooth shape with no projections
What is density?
Density is how much of something there is in a certain volume
What is density measured in?
Density is measured in mass per volume e.g. g/cm³
How do you get the density of something?
Density is mass divided by volume
How do you get the volume of something?
Volume is mass divided by density
How do you get the mass of something?
Mass is density multiplied by volume
What is speed?
Speed is how much something is travelling in a certain amount of time
