forces and motions Flashcards
what is the equation for weight?
w = mg
on earth g is about 10 n/kg what is the weight of 5 kg on the earths surface?
50 N ( 5 kg x 10 N/KG = 50N)
What would the graph look like if the car was accelerating ?
the graph would be going up in a straight line
how do we calculate speed ?
speed = distance/time
equation for force ?
f = m x a
what is the unit we use to measure force?
newtons
what would an accelerating car look like on a distance time graph?
it would be going up straight
What are the 3 non-contact forces?
Magnetism
Gravity (weight)
Electro-static
Give 4 examples of scalars?
time, speed, mass, temperature, distance, height.
Give 2 examples of vectors?
Displacement,
Velocity,
Forces.
Name 5 types of forces?
Friction, Upthrust, Tension, Magnetism, Electro-static.
what is a vector?
a quantity which has size and direction.
What 2 things do all vectors have on common?
Direction,
Magnitude.
how can vectors be represented?
using arrows.
What is a resultant force?
A single force that is a result of 2 or more forces acting on an object.
