Forces and Motion Part 2 Flashcards
What is acceleration?
A change in velocity
Deceleration - negative acceleration, slowing down
Measured in m/s2
Equation to shoe relationship between acceleration, velocity and time:
a = Δv / t acceleration = change in velocity / time taken
Equation for final speed
v2 = u2 + 2as
final speed)2 = (initial speed)2 + (2 * acceleration * distance
Equation to show relationship between force, mass and acceleration:
F = ma force = mass * acceleration
Equation to calculate weight
W = mg weight = mass * gravitational field strength (10)
What is momentum
How difficult it is to stop a moving object
Measured in kg m/s
Equation to show relationship between momentum, mass and velocity:
p = mv momentum = mass * velocity
What is the law of conservation of momentum?
Momentum before a collision = momentum after a collision
Equation to show relationship between force, change in momentum and time taken::
force = change in momentum / time taken
F = (mv - mu) / t
What is terminal velocity?
The maximum speed of an object, reached when the forces moving the object are balanced by its frictional forces.
