Forces and Motion 2 Flashcards
What is the first law of motion called?
law of enertia
law of enertia
an object at rest will remain at rest and an object in motion will remain in motion unless acted upon by an external force.
what is enertia?
anything that has mass has enertia. the greater the mass of an object, the greater the enertia. Enertia is the resistance of movement that makes heavier things harder to move
What is the formula for weight?
w=mg
Define force.
An interaction between two objects causing a change in motion.
What is acceleration?
The change in speed or direction of an object’s movement.
State Newton’s Second Law of Motion (Law of Acceleration).
The acceleration of an object depends on its mass and the force applied to it.
Formula of law of acceleration
Formula: F=ma
State Newton’s Third Law of Motion (Law of Interaction).
For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
Define momentum and its formula.
Resistance to changes in motion due to force.
Formula: p=mv
Define impulse and its formula.
The change in momentum caused by a force applied over time.
Formula: FΔt=mΔv
