Forces and Motion Flashcards
What quantities is distance and speed
scalar - only have a magnitude
what quantity is displacement and velocity
vector - magnitude and direction
what is the equation for speed
speed(m/s) = distance(m) / time(s)
what are the typical speed for :
walking, running and cycling, city driving, sound of air
and what factors do they depend on
walking 1.5 m/s
running 3 m/s
cycling 6 m/s
city driving 12 m/s
sound of air 330 m/s
they factors they depend on is age, fitness, terrain and distance
what is velocity
the speed of an object in a given direction
what happens to an object not travvling in a straight line and an object moving in a circle
not traveling in straight line - speed is constant, velocity changes because direction changes
circle motion - constantly changing direction so velocity constant changes
accelerates caused by force of gravity
What is newtons first law
an object will remain in the same state of motion unless acted on by external force
velocity will only change if there’s a resultant force acting on it
