Forces and Motion Flashcards
What is Newtons 1st Law?
A body will remain at rest, or continue to travel in a constant velocity UNLESS an unbalanced force acts on it.
What is Newton’s second law?
Objects will only accelerate or decelerate if an unbalanced force acts on the object. The size and the direction of the acceleration or deceleration is dependent of the size and the direction of the force.
F= MA
what is Newton’s third Law?
Whenever two objects interact, the forces exerted on another is equal and opposite.
What is the unit of Force?
Newtons (N)
Which direction does Magnetism travel?
North to South
What is the difference between Weight and Mass?
Mass is a measure of how much matter there is in an object, while weight is a measure of the size of the pull of gravity on the object.
What are two ways to de-magnetise a magnet?
1- smashing it hard with a hammer.
2- heat the magnet past its heating point.
Define a magnet.
A magnet is an object that can produce magnetic field and that can repell like poles and attracting unlike poles.
What is the formula of speed?
time taken
List materials that are magnetic.
Iron, nickel, steel, stainless steel,
describe ways of making a magnet.
We can make a magnet by using ferromagnetic materials and heating it to a certain degree. They will get permanently magnetic.
