Forces And Braking Flashcards
What does the braking force needed to stop the vehicle depend on?
It depends on the mass of the vehicle And the speed that the vehicle was travelling when the brakes are applied.
What is the thinking distance and what is braking distance?
Thinking distance is the distance travelled by a vehicle in the time that it takes the driver to react and the braking distance is in the time that it takes for the vehicle to actually stop(for the braking force to act).
What is the equation for stopping distance?
It is thinking distance plus braking distance.
What are the factors affecting stopping distance?
- Tiredness
- Alchohol and drugs
- The speed of the vehicle
- The mass of the vehicle
- Adverse road conditions
- Poorly-maintained vehicle
What is the equation for the momentum of a moving object?
Momentum ofmoving object kg m/s =mass x velocity
What does the law of conservation of momentum mean?
In a close system the total momentum before an event is equal to the total momentum after the event.
