Forces, acceleration and Newton's Law Flashcards
What does air resistance mean
a force of friction produced when an object moves through the air
What does resultant force mean
the single force that could replace all the forces acting on an object, found by adding these together. If all the forces are balanced, the resultant force is zero
What does terminal velocity mean
the maximum speed of an object, reached when the forces moving the objects are balanced by its frictional forces
What is Newton’s first law
an object remains in the same state of motion unless a resultant force acts on it
What is Newton’s second law
an object accelerates in the direction of a resultant force
What is Newton’s third law
when two objects interact, the forces they exert on each other are equal and opposite
