Forces Flashcards
What is the unit for force?
Newtons, or N
What is the force that pulls us to the ground?
Weight.
What is the relationship between weight and mass?
W=mg where g=10N/m
What is the relationship between Force, mass and acceleration?
F=ma
What is a Newton?
kg m/s^2
What is Newton’s first law of motion?
A body at rest will remain at rest and a body that is in motion will remain in motion unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.
What is Newton’s second law of motion?
Force = mass x acceleration
What is Newton’s third law of motion?
For every force there is an equal and opposite force being exerted.
What is Weight?
The force that a planet pulls an object down. It is opposite to the velocity.
What is Friction?
A force that slows objects down. It is opposite to the velocity.
What is Tension?
The force a string or spring everts on a body.
What is Thrust
The force from an engine.
What is Upthrust?
The up force on a body that is in fluid.
What is Reaction Force?
The force an object exerts on another body when they are in contact.
What is the equation for upthrust?
The mass of the fluid that is displaced.
