Forces Flashcards
What is force?
A force is a push or pull upon an object resulting from its interaction with another object.
Name all of the types of contact forces.
Normal Force Applied Force Frictional Force Tension Force Spring Force Resisting Force
Name all of the types of non-contact forces.
Magnetic Force
Electrostatic Force
Gravitational Force
What sort of movement do balanced forces produce?
Constant speed by frictional force.
What sort of movement do unbalanced forces produce?
Acceleration or deacceleration.
What is a balanced force?
Two forces acting in opposite directions on an object that are equal in size.
What is an unbalanced force?
A force that causes a change in the motion of an object.
What is the unit for force and its symbol?
Newtons (N)
What is mass?
The amount of matter in an object. (KG/G)
What is weight?
The amount of force on an object (N)
What is friction?
Friction is the force that opposes movement. It can be useful for slowing things down.
Think of three situations where friction is helpful.
Skydiving, Writing, Running.
Think of three situations where friction is harmful.
Moving, War, Driving
How is friction increased?
By the lack of other forces.
How is friction decreased?
By the presence of other forces.
