Forces Flashcards
When two objects interact, what do both experience and what do they form?
Both objects experience a force and these two forces form an interaction pair
What are two forces in an interaction pair in terms of size and direction?
They are equal in size and opposite in direction
When two objects slide relative to each other, they both experience a force, in which direction is this force?
They will both experience a force in the direction that prevents their relative moment (the direction opposite the way they are moving), this is friction
When an object rest on a flat surface, gravity pulls it down onto the surface, what is the name of the opposite force?
To stop the object from moving through of moving the flat surface downwards it provides an opposite and equal force, called the the reaction of the surface
How can friction and reaction of the surface explain walking?
The friction on the foot stops the foot from simply sliding forwards and provides a grip to the surface, the gravity on the foot pushes the foot down on the surface and the reaction of the surface on the foot pushes it back up in the opposite direction causing the person to take a step forward
