Forces Flashcards
What are the types of forces?
Thrust, Air resistance and torque.
What is thrust?
It increases the velocity of an object.
What is air resistance?
It decreases the velocity of an object.
What is torque?
It changes the rotation of an object.
What happens when the masses get larger?
The gravitational force gets larger between them.
What is electrostatic force?
A force that acts between two charges.
What is the same as the direction of the object’s acceleration?
The direction of the unbalanced force.
What is the unit of force?
Newton (N)
What does ‘F’ stand for?
Unbalanced force
What does ‘M’ stand for?
Mass
What does ‘A’ stand for?
Acceleration
What is another common force?
Friction
What is friction?
Friction is a force that opposes motion.
How to you work out the resultant force?
An object may have several different forces acting on it, which can have different strengths and directions. But they can be added together to give the resultant force.
If the resultant force was zero what would the moving objects speed be?
The moving object would stay the same speed.
