Forces Flashcards
A push or a pull one body excerts on another
Force
An object moving, keeps moving at that velocity. An object at rest stays at rest unless acted upon by a net force
Newtons first law
The tendency of an object to resist any change in motion
Inertia
Combination of all forces that act on an object
Net Force
Every object exerts a force on every other object felt as a pull
Gravity
The amount of matter or “stuff” object has. Measured in kilograms
Mass
Measure of force of gravity on an objects mass; how hard object is pulled toward center of earth
Weight
Force= Mass times acceleration
Newton’s second law
Oppose motion between two surfaces that are touching each other
Friction
Resists getting an object moving ( this is when objects are not moving
Static Friction
Resists keeping an object moving ( happens while moving)
Kinetic Friction
To every action there is an equal (in size) and opposite (In direction) reaction force
Newtons 3rd law
Mass on the move. The force required to stop a moving object
Momentum
Anything that is thrown or shot through air
Projectile
Force acting toward the center of a curved or circular path
Centripetal force
