Forces Flashcards
A push or a pull one body exerts on another.
Force
An object moving at a constant velocity keeps moving at that velocity an object at rest stays at rest (unless acted upon a net force).
Newton’s First Law
The tendency of an object to resist any change in motion.
Inertia
Combination of all forces that act on an object.
Net Force
Every object exerts a force on every other object - pull.
Gravity
Amount of “stuff” that makes up you (kilograms).
Mass
Force of gravity on your mass.
Weight
To every reaction there is an equal and opposite reaction.
Newton’s Third Law of Motion
Mass on the move.
Momentum
Anything that’s thrown or shot through air.
Projectile
Force acting toward the center of a curved or circular path.
Centripetal Force
Opposes motion between two surfaces that are touching each other.
Friction
Resists getting an object moving (this is when objects are not moving).
Static Friction
Resists keeping an object moving (happens while it’s moving).
Kinetic Friction
F=MA (force = mass x acceleration)
Newton’s Second Law
