Forces Flashcards
A push or a pull one body exerts on another.
Force
An object moving at a constant velocity keeps moving at that velocity, an object at rests stays at rest UNLESS ACTED UPON BY A NET FORCE.
Newton’s 1st Law
The tendency of an object to resist any change in motion.
Inertia
The combination of all forces that act on an object.
Net Force
Every object exerts a force on every other object. Felt as a pull.
Gravity
Amount of matter or “stuff” an object has measured in kilograms. Inertia is related to this.
Mass
The force of gravity on your mass; how hard an object is pulled to Earth.
Weight
To every action there is an equal and opposite reaction force.
Newton’s 3rd Law
Mass on the move! Force required to stop a moving object.
Momentum
Anything that’s thrown or shot through air.
Projectile
Force acting toward the center of a curved or circular path.
Centripital Force
Opposes motion between two surfaces that are touching each other.
Friction
Resists getting an object moving (this is when objects are not moving)
Static Friction
Resists keeping an object moving (happens while it is moving)
Kinetic Friction
Force= Mass x Acceleration or F= ma
Newton’s 2nd Law
