forces Flashcards
Force
A push or a pull one body exerts on another
Newtons 1st Law
An object moving, keeps moving at that velocity, object at rest stays at rest unless acted upon by a net force
Inertia
The tendency of an object to resist any change in motion
Net Force
combination of all forces that act on an object
Gravity
Every single object exerts a force on every other object
Mass
the amount of matter or “stuff” an object has, Measured in kilograms
Weight
Measure of force of gravity on an objects mass, how hard the object is pulled toward the center of the earth
Newton’s 2nd Law
the net force acting on an object causes the object to accelerate in relation to the size of the force and the mass of the object
Friction
opposes motion between two surfaces that touch each other
Static friction
Resists getting an object moving (this is when the objects are not moving)
kinetic friction
resists keeping an object from moving (while its moving)
Newtons 3rd law
to every action there is an equal (in size) and opposite (in direction) reaction force
Projectile
anything thrown or shot in the air
centripetal force
force acting toward the center of a curved or circular path
momentum
mass on the move
