Forces Flashcards
A push or pull one body exerts on to the other
Force
An object moving keeps moving at that velocity an object at rest stays at rest unless acted upon by a net force.
Newton’s 1st law
The tendency of an object to resist any change in motion
Inertia
Combination of all forces that act on an object
Net Force
Every object exerts a force on every other object felt as a pull
Gravity
The amount of stuff an object has
Mass
Measure of force of gravity on an object’s mass; how hard an object is pulled toward center earth
Weight
The net force acting on an object causes the object to accelerate in relation to the size of the force and mass of the object F=mxa Force= mass x acceleration
Newtons 2nd law
Force that opposes motion between two surfaces that are touching each other
Friction
Resists getting an object moving (this is when objects are not moving)
Static Friction
Resists keeping an object moving ( happens while it is moving)
Kinetic Friction
“To every action there is an equal (in size) and opposite (in direction) reaction
Newton’s 3rd law
Anything that’s thrown or shot through air
Projectile
Force acting toward the center of curved or circular path
Centripetal Force
Mass on the move! The force required to stop a moving object.
Momentum
