Forces Flashcards
An object moving stays moving unless something stops it.
newton’s first law of motion
The tendency of an object to resist any change in motion.
Inertia
combination of all forces that act on an object.
Net force
Every object exerts a force on ever other object.
Gravity
Amount of matter or “STUFF” an object has measured in kilograms ( INERTIA!! )
Mass
The measure of force of gravity on an objects mass: Object is pulled towards the center of the earth.
Weight
The net force acting on an object causes the object to accelerate in relation to the size of the force and the mass of the object. F=MA
Newton’s second law
Is a force that opposes motion between two surfaces that are touching each other.
Friction
Friction that resists getting an object moving (this is when objects are not moving).
static Friction
Friction that resists keeping an object moving (happens while it is moving).
Kinetic Friction
Every action there is an equal (in size) and opposite (in direction) reaction force.
Newton’s Third Law
Anything thrown or shot through the air.
Projectile
Force acting toward center of a curved or circular path.
Centripetal Force
Mass on the move
-The force required to stop a moving object.
Momentum
