FORCES Flashcards
What does forces in balance mean?
Two or more force using the same amount of force on a mass. The object usually stays still when the forces are balanced
What is a force?
A push or a pull that does one of 6 things
What unit do you measure force in?
In Newtons (N)
What do you measure force with?
With a spring balance
What is an agent?
The agent is the one giving the force
What is the receiver?
The receiver is the one receiving the force
What is a contact force?
A contact force is when the agent and the receiver touch, for example friction between two objects.
What is a non contact force?
When the two forces do not touch, for example gravity
What is friction?
Friction is when two objects rub together, causing the moving object to slow down
What’s lubrication?
Something applied to an object to reduce its friction.
What is air resistance?
Air resistance is the resistance between the air and an object as the object tries to push through the air
What is streamlining?
Streamlining is when an object is curved so it can push through the air easily
What is a simple machine?
A simple machine is a machine that only needs one force to be used
What is a load?
The load is the object
What is the effort?
The effort is the force that needs to be applied to push or pull the load
