Forces Flashcards
What is thinking distance?
The distance travelled by the car while the driver reacts to the hazard
What are three factors that affect thinking distance?
Speed
Alcohol
Drugs
What are three factors that affect stopping distance?
Speed
Weather conditions
Condition of brakes
What is stopping distance?
The total distance the car travels during the time it takes for the driver to see the hazard and the car coming to a rest
What is braking distance?
The distance travelled by the car while the brakes DO WORK on the wheels to bring them to a stop.
What are the units of momentum?
kgm/s
What is work done?
The energy transferred when a force is used to move an object across a distance.
What are 3 non-contact forces?
- Gravitational
- Electrostatic
- Magnetic
What is elastic deformation?
When the object returns to its original size and shape after the force is taken away.
What is weight?
The force on an object due to its mass in a gravitational field.
