Q

What is mass?

A

A measure of how much material is in an object (measured in kilograms). The mass of an object does not change no matter where it is measured.

12
Q

How do you measure weight?

A

By multiplying the mass by the acceleration due to gravity (10m/s²)
eg. F=mg
F= 5kg x 10m/s² = 50N

Q

What are magnetic fields?

A

The space in which the magnet can be felt. Magnets exert a force on magnetic substances containing steel, cobalt and nickel. Field lines show the direction of magnetic fields.

16
Q

What is electrostatic force?

A

Friction forces between certain materials that transfer electrons. Only electrons can be transferred to an atom or lost from one. A material that gains electrons becomes negatively charged. A material which loses electrons becomes positively charged.

17
Q

How is potential energy obtained?

A

It comes from the energy used to create the frictional force by rubbing objects together.

18
Q

What is an electrochemical cell?

A

A device that can generate electrical energy from the chemical reactions occurring in it, or use the electrical energy supplied to it to facilitate chemical reactions in it.
