Forces Flashcards
equation linking force, distance and work fone
work done = force x distance
what is Work Done measured in
Joules
what is 1 joule equal to
1 joule = 1 newton metre
how can energy be transferred
Energy can be transferred by mechanical work, electrical work, heating, or radiation
examples of forces involved in stretching, bending and compressing an object
bending: compression and tension
stretching: elastic and tension
compressing: compression
how can protective pads or something protective reduce injury
protective gear increases time taken to stop, so the rate of change of momentum decreases, reducing the force/impact on the person
what is inertia
the tendency of an object to continue in its state of rest or motion
how does high altitude affect air resistance
the higher the altitude, the less dense the air, so the air resistance decreases, so object will be able to accelerate for longer at a higher atlitude
why are windows in an airplane curved/bended slightly
force from air pressure acting from inside to outside is bigger than force acting inwards, so window is kept in position
