Forces Flashcards
third class lever
the fulcrum is on the left and the effort is in the middle and the fulcrum is on the right (FEL, Broom, Rake)
first class lever
fulcrum (middle) effort (left) load (right) EFL, hammer removing nail, scissors
second class lever
Fulcrum (right) load (middle) effort (left) ELF, wheelbarrow, nutcracker
force multipliers
increases the amount of for you can place on an object.
load
the force exerted on a surface.
speed multipliers
devices that increases the speed or distance travelled by, an object.
terminal velocity
the speed when an object falling through a fluid (usually air) is no longer getting faster.
newtons first law
An object at rest remains at rest, and an object in motion stays in motion at constant speed, unless acted by an unbalanced force.
work
getting a job done
inertia
a property of matter by which it remains at rest or in unchanging motion unless acted by some external force.
newtons
is the measurement of force.
weight
a measure of heaviness of an objects.
mass
the measure of the amount of matter in an object
magnetism
the force exerted by magnets when they attract or repel each other.
friction
the force that resists motion when the surface of one object comes in contact with the surface of another.
