Forces📦↪️ Flashcards
What is a force and what does it cause
Force is a push and pull exerted on an object which causes it to move in a certain direction, change direction, stop moving
What is force measured in
Newtons(N)
What is a resultant force
When an object has several different forces acting on it, it can be added together to create a resultant force
If both contrasting forces are equivalent what do you do?
You say that it is stationery(It wont move)
What is magnetic force?
A magnetic force is created by a magnetic field exerted by the either electrically charged particles because of their motion
What is gravitational force?
When Gravity pulls objects with mass/energy towards each other causing mutual attraction
What is electrical force?
Any two charged bodies that interact by repulsion or attraction
What is frictional force?
A force generated by two surfaces that contact and slide against each other
What is Weight force?
The gravitational Force with which earth attracts the masses towards the center
What is tension force?
A force exerted through a rope, string or wire when pulled by forces acting from opposite sides
What is upthrust force?
An object that is partly or completely submerged ,experiences a greater pressure on its bottom surface than on its top surface
When do we use the parallelogram law?
We use the parallelogram law when two or more forces act at an angle to each other
List the 6 steps of the parallelogram Law-
1.Let 1N=1cm
2. Redraw diagram in cm,only use arrow
3.Draw diagonal line from starting point or origin
4.Using ruler measure the length of diagonal line in cm
5.Convert cm to N to obtain the magnitude of resultant force
6.Use protractor to measure angle between the diagonal line and bottom horizontal line. This gives the direction of resultant force.
*When writing answer(Resultant force= 70N at 56 degrees from the horizontal) Round N to the nearest number
What is moment of a force?
When a force is applied to an object that is fixed at one end it causes the object to turn
What is the formula for moment of a force?
Force multiplies by perpendicular distance from pivot (T)= F multiplies d
