Forces Flashcards
What does it mean when an object is in equilibrium?
All opposing forces are equal to each other.
How should we draw vector forces when they are in equilibrium?
Tip to tail
How do we resolve forces?
Fsin0 for opposite force
Fcos0 for adjacent force
What is Newton’s 2nd Law?
F=ma
Which way are forces drawn on objects that have tension?
Which way are forces drawn on objects that have thrust?
In the diagram below, what forces is box A experiencing?
In the diagram below, what forces is box B experiencing?
In the diagram below, what forces is the lift experiencing?
N=normal reaction of box B
In the diagram below, what forces is the whole system experiencing?
Label the forces on this connected particles diagram
Label the forces on this pulley diagram
Label the forces on box A and B on the diagram below (acceleration is up the slope)
Label the forces experienced by the pulley in the diagram below
What is the method for connected particles questions?
- F=ma for both particles (equation of motion)
- Use simultaneous equations to find acceleration or tension
- When the string breaks or something hits the floor, use SUVAT to find V for one particle
- V then becomes U for the particle that goes up so find a new acceleration once the tension becomes 0 after 1st particle hits the floor
