Q

What is the earths gravity

17
Q

What is Normal Force

A

• Fn
• Perpendicular force
• Exerted
• By a surface
• On an
• Object
• In contact

18
Q

What does Normal Force always equal to

A
  • Fg (weight)
  • Fg always negative and Fn always positive
19
Q

What is Friction

A

• Ff
• Force that RESISTS MOTION
• Is created
• When
• TWO SURFACES
• MOVE ACROSS
• Each other

20
Q

Friction unit of measure

21
Q

What is Static friction

A

• Force BETWEEEN
• TWO SURFACES
• That are
• NOT MOVING
• Relative to one another

22
Q

Draw a diagram of STATIC FRICTION and KINETIC FRICTION

23
Q

What is the coefficient of friction

A

• Is a NUMBER
• That shows
• How ROUGH
• A surface
• of an object

24
Q

What is tension

A

• The PULLING FORCE
• TRANSMITTED along an axis
• By means of string
• Cable or chain by
• Each end of the rod

25
Which material are natural magnetic materials
• Magnets consist of magnetic material • Metals which are natural magnetic material are NICKEL, IRON OR COBALT
26
What are MAGNETIC FORCES
• Non-contact forces • PUSH or Pull • On OBJECTS • WITHOUT THEM PHYSICALLY TOUCHING EACH OTHER • EARTH has MAGNETIC FORCES (MAGNETIC NORTH POLE AND SOUTH POLE which is slightly DIFFERENT to the GEOGRAPHIC NORTH AND SOUTH POLES) • LIKE POLES REPEL (EG N AND N) • UNLIKE POLES ATTRACT (EG S AND N) MAGNETIC FIELD GOES FROM NORTH TO SOUTH POLES)
27
Draw a Diagram of MAGNETIC FIELD of 2 MAGNETS 1. With UNLIKE POLES facing each other
28
Draw a Diagram of MAGNETIC FIELD of 2 MAGNETS 1. With LIKE POLES facing each other
29
What instrument do you use for direction/navigation And How does it work
Compass • Used for direction • Points to MAGNETIC NORTH POLE • Different to GEOGRAPHIC NORTH POLE
30
WHAT IS RELATIONSHIP OF STRENGTH VERSUS DISTANCE OF MAGNETIC FORCES
• Force decreases the further the magnets away from each other FURTHER DISTANCE BETWEEN MAGNETS = WEAKER THE MAGNETIC FORCE
31
WHAT CAN MAGNETIC FORCES TRAVEL THROUGH
• NON-MAGNETIC MATERIALS EG AIR, WATER, WOOD
32
What is ELECTROSTATIC FORCE
1. FRICTIONAL FORCE • When you RUB (FRICTION) a cloth • On the surface of balloon or rod 2. ELECTROSTATIC FORCE • After rubbing • The electrons will move • From the cloth • To the Balloon • So the CLOTH become POSITIVELY CHARGED (DEFICIT OF ELECTRONS/lost electrons) • And the BALLOON/ROD becomes NEGATIVELY CHARGED (GAINED ELECTRONS) IF LOOSE PAPERS ARE IN SHORT DISTANCE FROM BALLOON OR ROD • The papers (NEUTRALLY CHARGED WITH EQUAL PROTONS AND ELECTRONS) will ATTRACT to balloon/rod • Balloon/rod NEGATIVELY CHARGED • Will ATTRACT • To NEUTRALLY ( CHARGED WITH EQUAL PROTONS AND ELECTRONS) paper If USE COMB COMBING (RUBBING) HAIR COMB - BECOMES NEGATIVELY CHARGED AND HAIR BECOMES POSITIVELY CHARGES (ELECTRONS MOVE FROM HAIR TO COMB If USE COMB COMBING (RUBBING) HAIR
33
What is gravitational force
• Fg • Force that PULLS • VERTICALLY DOWNWARD • Towards the • Center • OF THE EARTH • All objects have • Gravitational force between them
34
What is mass
• Measure in kg (kilograms) • Amount of MATTER • An object has MEASURED WITH A BEAM BALANCE
35
What is weight
• The. Gravitational force • That the earth EXERTS • On ANY OBJECT • NEAR THE SURFACE MEASURED WITH A SPRING BALANCE
36
VELOCITY
• Is the • RATE of change of • POSITION
37
ACCELERATION
• Is the • RATE of change of VELOCITY
