Forces Flashcards
What are the names of the main forces
Drag
Weight
Tension
Lift
Compression
Upthrust
Attraction
Thrust
Friction
Repulsion
How do you tell if two forces are balanced?
The arrows are of equal length and are going in opposite directions
What is a balanced force?
forces that are equal in size and opposite in direction.
What is equilibrium?
When all the external forces are balanced.
What does thrust do to a aircraft?
Thrust pulls it in the direction of motion
What does drag do to a aircraft?
Drag slows the aircraft by going in the opposite direction
What does weight/gravitational do to a aircraft?
Weight/gravity pulls the plane downwards to stop it from going to high
What does lift do to a aircraft?
Lift pulls the aircraft upwards
What does at rest mean?
It means the object/body is not moving
What is another way of saying constant speed in a straight line?
Constant volocity
What is it called when the force is of different sizes and the same directions?
Unbalanced
A resultant force is a balanced force what does it act on?
Acting from stationary it will accelerate
It will act in the same direction if already moving
If it’s acts in the opposite direction from when it was at rest it will decelerate
What is friction
A Force that between surfaces in contact
What does static friction do?
Static friction increases the pulling force
What happens when the pulling force reaches it limits?
It decreases
