FORCES Flashcards
Interaction between two objects that can be a push or a pull; A VECTOR QUANTITY
FORCE
Force is completely described by a magnitude
SI UNIT: N/ NEWTON
is used if two or more forces act on one
object.
Law of Superposition
Forces can be categorized either
Contact Forces or Non-contact Forces
The sum of the forces acting on one body
Net Force
Forces that requires the two interacting bodies to come in to contact with each other.
Contact forces
Forces that does not require the two interacting bodies to come in to contact with each other since these forces act at a distance.
Non-contact forces
Types of Contact Forces
Normal, Tension, Applied, Friction
The surface exerts a push the object that is directed perpendicular to the surface.
Normal Force
A pulling force exerted on an object by a rope, cord, etc.
Tension Force
Surface may exert force on an object, directed parallel to the surface.
Friction Force
Resists force that is applied to an object, and the object remains at rest relative to the surface.
Static friction
Resists force that is applied to an object, and a force that acts between moving surfaces.
Kinetic Friction
Force that is manually exerted on one object by another object.
Applied Force
Types of Non-contact forces
Gravity/Gravitational Force, Electric force, Magnetic force, Nuclear force
