Forces Flashcards
First Law
Inertia, an object in motion or at rest wants to continue what its doing
2nd Law
Fnet=ma
3rd Law
For every action there is an equal opposite reaction
Mass vs weight
Your total matter vs total matter with the affect of gravity
Two conditions for equilibrium
A = o and Fnet = o
Two motions of equilibrium
Constant velocity (dynamic) and velocity is 0 (static)
Why cats survive falls better than other animals
Small animals reach lower terminal velocities and less impact stress. From higher jumps they have more time to reach that terminal velocity and do things to absorb and limit the shock. Plus they can orient themselves to land on their feet during the fall.
What is terminal velocity?
The highest velocity an object reaches, and when drag matches gravity’s pull on the object, it enters dynamic equilibrium and stops accelerating.
What happens to the acceleration and net force of an object as it approaches terminal velocity?
They both decrease.
