Forceps, elevators and Luxators Flashcards

1
Q

What happens if the bone is stronger tan the tooth?

Q

Why do you initially push down th elong axis of the tooth?

16
Q

Why be careful rotataing an upper 4?

A

Pull buccally - rotation may leave root apices behind

especially on orthodontic pt - root fragment left behind can displace 5 as gap is closed from braces

17
Q

Used for what?

A

Upper molar

18
Q

Used for what?

A

Support TMJ

19
Q

Beak to cheek ?

A

Yes

20
Q

Where to stand for bottom right ant?

A

Stand behind pt

21
Q

Where to stand for lower left ant?

A

In front of pt

22
Q

Forceps for lower molars?

A

Dual beak

23
Q

Where to stand for lower right molar extraction?

A

Behind pt

24
Q

What motion to expand socket for lower molar?

A

Figure of 8

25
Q

Where to stand for lower left molar?

A

In front of pt

26
Q

How to looses socket for lower Olaf’s?

A

Buccal-lingually

Then figure of 8 - make sire not to hot adjacent teeth

27
Q

For lower molars, how is the pt sitting n chair?

A

Upright and Lower down

28
Q

What to do after extraction?

A

Buccal plate squeezed back in

Achieved hemostasis quickly

29
Q

What to use if there is no crown?

A

Luxators and elevators

30
Q

What is more delicate - Luxators or elevator?

A

Luxators - use first

31
Q

How to use elevator?

A

Used within apical space and rotational movement of the PDL space

Rotate

Go in buccal - move elevator palatally

= tooth move palatally and bone move bucally

32
Q

Why keep the index finger extended toward the tip of a Luxators/elevator?

A

Preventing the instrument moving too far if it slips out of the PDL space and limiting damage to adjacent structures

33
Q

How to use luxator?

A

Don’t twist

Small wiggle as you separate the tooth and PDL

34
Q

Why not rotate luxators?

A

Fragile

Slip

35
Q

Where in th emuthdo you not se luxators?

A

Lingually - risk of slipping and penetrating FOM

Palatally - slip and damage greater palatine/incisive nvb

36
Q

Why not lever teeth out?

A

Crushed interdental bone / damage PDL

Mobility / avulsion of adjacent teeth

Sensitivity of adjacent teeth

Fractured restoration in adjacent teeth

Fractured basal bone
