Force & Motion (Unit 3) Flashcards
Force
a push or pull that can change the motion of an object
Exert
to apply a force
Velocity
speed in a specific direction
Speed
how fast an object is moving
Reference point
the starting point you choose to describe a location, or position, of an object
Position
an object’s distance and direction from a reference point
Distance
a length between two points
Displacement
change in position
Mass
the amount of matter that makes up an object
Friction
a force between an object and the surface it is moving over. (the force applied on the object is in the opposite direction.)
Note:
two dimensional displacement needs to have a direction
Speed Formula
Distance / Time = Speed
Distance Formula
Speed x Time = Distance
Time Formula
Distance / Speed = Time
What is the abbreviation for miles per hour?
mph
