Force, Motion, Mass Flashcards
What is Newton’s 1st Law of Motion?
A body in motion remains in motion or a body at rest remains at rest, unless acted upon by a force.
What does Newton’s 2nd Law state?
Force equals mass times acceleration: F = m*a.
What is Newton’s 3rd Law of Motion?
For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
Define speed.
Distance / Time.
Define velocity.
Speed + Direction.
Define acceleration.
CHANGE IN VELOCITY / Time.
What is inertia?
The tendency of an object to resist a change in its motion.
Define mass.
The amount of matter in an object.
What is the formula for force?
Force = mass X acceleration.
What is net force?
The sum of all forces acting on the object.
What are balanced forces?
Forces that are equal in size and opposite in direction, resulting in no net force.
What are unbalanced forces?
Forces that are not equal and opposite, resulting in a net force.
Fill in the blank: The net force acting on an object is the _______.
[sum of all forces acting on the object]
True or False: An object at rest will remain at rest unless acted upon by an external force.
True.
